Independent Sponsors

The search for differentiated returns begins where markets are less standardized. The European lower middle market is broad, fragmented and deeply local. Many businesses remain outside institutional ownership and opportunities are often developed through relationships long before a formal sale process begins. Those relationships allow owners and sponsors to shape the transaction together, agreeing on a valuation and structure that reflect what has been built and support a shared plan for the company’s next chapter.

Independent sponsors concentrate specialist expertise around each opportunity. Many are experienced operators or investors with deep knowledge of a particular sector or business model. In smaller companies, where there is greater scope for professionalization, that expertise can translate directly into operational improvement, often the most important and long-lasting source of value creation.

The model aligns capital around each opportunity. Independent sponsors raise capital one investment at a time, requiring every deal to pass a rigorous judgement process. Sponsors invest alongside their capital partners and earn much of their economics through performance. For investors, the combination of differentiated access, specialist ownership and company level value creation can produce returns driven by execution rather than multiple expansion or favorable market conditions.

The best partnerships begin with a conversation long before with a deal.
